I thought i'd give it a few months, they might sell the idea/prototype
to another company, or do a re-start....

GPH isn't one of these chinese clone companys. Yes, maybe they'll release a new handheld, but it will have nothing to do at all with the XGP.

I don't think GPH will do anything with the legacy of the XGP.
But who knows which company will steal / buy the idea. As Ben points out,
there are many Chinese companies who make MP4 like game-players,
with better quality each year.

I am working on a thread with new alternatives for the gp2x, some of them come from China. But they have the same problem as GPH does, they don't communicate very well, or mostly don't reply at all.

The Chinese players are not top of the bill at this point, but in a few years they will.

In the Netherlands we made fun at Japanese cars in the 70ties, at Korean cars in the 80ties, look how far have gotten today.

Craig wrote this on gp32x.com yesterday:

The speed things are moving now with handheld technology every year may become the normal life span, but not so much a totally new system each year but more like a backward compatable PC-ish upgraded system.

A totally upgradable handheld, can you imagine?

I somehow have the feeling we will see an upgraded GP2X in the near future.. So the line of "GP"-handhelds won't end that soon. For me GP2X will be most likely the last gp-handheld I bought, though...

I recently found a chinese handheld and it reminded me of you writing about chinese handehls. Wink

Did you see this handheld?

Looks really cool. Sadly it is only published in China. Sad They seem to have built a much more strong business than GP and GPH ever did. They even seem to sell famous movies and music videos.

yes, the ez mini is part of the story. It looks very good to me.
The company behind is is Shanda, which is the biggest online content provider in China, mostly MMORGs. A great community too.

There were talks about selling outside of china, but no conformation on that yet.
